The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has ordered the site manager of the collapsed building at Roman Ridge to suspend all construction works until investigations into the incident are completed.
The collapse occurred at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre, situated between a 10-storey residential complex and the Ghana Institute of Engineering.
The three-storey building, reportedly being developed by Fabrico Builders, gave way on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 12:18 p.m., prompting the dispatch of a rescue team from the National Headquarters, led by ADO II Ankrah. The team arrived at the scene at 12:29 p.m.
By the time rescuers reached the site, all 14 victims — all men — had already been pulled from the debris and rushed to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital for medical attention.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the injured workers suffered varying degrees of harm, though no deaths had been reported at the time of filing this story.
The exact cause of the collapse remains undetermined, and an inquiry has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The GNFS emphasized that the site manager has been instructed to cease all building activities until the probe is finalized and safety protocols are fully adhered to before any work resumes.
The Service added that further details will be communicated as new information emerges.
