Ghana’s Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings Elected 2nd Vice President of Pan African Parliament

In a decisive victory, Ghanaian legislator Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings has been elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP). The election, held during the ongoing session of the continental body, saw her secure 131 votes against 51 for her opponent.

Her commanding win underscores the broad support she enjoys among parliamentarians representing the African Union’s 55 member states. The position, which is the bureau’s third-highest office, marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s representation and highlights the growing push for youth and female leadership within the PAP.

Hon. Rawlings has been an advocate for health equity, youth empowerment, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. Following the announcement of results, fellow parliamentarians congratulated her, with the overwhelming margin of victory seen as a unified endorsement of her leadership.

Her election comes at a time when the PAP is intensifying its work on harmonizing laws, promoting human rights, and advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda.

The Pan African Parliament, established as the legislative arm of the African Union, represents the peoples of Africa and fosters closer continental integration.

This achievement not only elevates Ghana’s profile on the continental stage but also signals a strong commitment to inclusive leadership across Africa.
