Ghana’s Foreign Minister Ablakwa pays tribute to late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has paid tribute to Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, lauding him as a principled, forward-thinking, and compassionate statesman who left a lasting impression on Ghana’s political landscape.

During a visit to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra to sign the condolence book, Mr. Ablakwa commended Buhari’s steadfast dedication to public duty, national stability, and the fight against corruption. He urged African leaders to draw inspiration from Buhari’s resolute and ethical approach to governance.

“President Buhari’s passing was unexpected. He was remarkable leader who gained global respect for his modesty, empathy, unifying disposition, democratic credentials, fight against corruption and his bold reforms. ,” Mr. Ablakwa remarked.

Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, died in London following a period of illness. His body was returned to Nigeria and interred in line with Islamic traditions. Once a military head of state from 1983 to 1985, Buhari later transitioned into democratic leadership, winning the presidency three decades after his initial rule.

Throughout his tenure, Buhari earned widespread acclaim for his anti-corruption drive, initiatives to revive Nigeria’s economy, and his efforts to combat insurgency in the northeastern region.

Numerous tributes have poured in from across the globe, acknowledging Buhari’s contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s foreign relations and promoting peace within West Africa.
