Ghanaians take to the streets demanding resignation of President Akufo-Addo

On Saturday November 5 2022,   Hundreds of protesters  marched through Ghana’s capital, Accra, calling for the resignation of President Nana Akufo-Addo amid  economic crisis that has seen fuel and food costs going up.

The demonstrations named ‘Ku Me Preko Reloaded’ begun from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle through some principal streets of Accra and ended at the independent square

The protest was led by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, who is pushing for the resignation of President Akufo-Addo over Ghana’s current economic woes.

Other civil society organizations including #FixTheCountry, Arise Ghana, Economic Fighters League, and some activists joined the demonstration.

They say the President and his government have not done enough to alleviate the plight of citizens in the struggling economy.

Speaking to the media, Martin Kpebu said corruption and mismanagement of the economy are a clear indication that Ghanaians can no longer wait until the end of Mr. Akufo-Addo’s four-year term.

He said after the protest, the president together with his vice ought to leave the office to pave way for the constitutional provision for his replacement to be set in motion.
he commended the police service for showing professionalism

Hundreds of people waved placards on Saturday and chanted “Akufo-Addo must go”.

The president last week sought to reassure Ghanaians that the authorities would get the country’s finances back on track after inflation topped 37 percent in September.

The Kume Preko Reloaded demonstration was a peaceful one in a series of demonstrations this year over the soaring cost of living that has made it even harder for people to get by in a country where about a quarter of the population lives on less than $2.15 per day, according to the World Bank.
