Five children from across Ghana have been referred to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for life-saving heart surgeries, thanks to the support of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

This brings the total number of cases sponsored by the Fund to eight, covering children from the Northern, Savannah, Bono-East, Western-North, Western, and Greater Accra regions. A total of GH¢1,141,500 has been committed to finance these surgeries.
“These are children who should be in classrooms and playgrounds, not hospital wards. Today, hope has arrived,” the Fund noted, underscoring its mission to ensure that no child is denied urgent care due to financial constraints.
The initiative forms part of 50 pilot cases ahead of the Fund’s full rollout in April. By covering the cost of these critical procedures, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is providing relief to families and doctors, while giving children a renewed chance at life.
The Fund reaffirmed its commitment to caring for vulnerable patients, stressing that its interventions are designed to make healthcare accessible and equitable for all.
