Ghana, EU Strengthen Ties with Strategic Dialogue

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held what he described as a “very positive and mutually beneficial engagement” with His Excellency Rune Skinnebach, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Ghana.

The meeting reaffirmed Ghana’s strong partnership with the EU, which has now become the country’s largest trading partner. Minister Ablakwa emphasized that both sides are looking forward to executing “big plans for 2026” aimed at deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.

Key areas of collaboration highlighted during the dialogue include security, agriculture, public health, education, artificial intelligence, and counterterrorism. The Minister underscored the importance of these partnerships in advancing Ghana’s national development agenda while strengthening regional and global cooperation.

Observers note that the engagement reflects Ghana’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to boost trade, enhance technological innovation, and address pressing challenges such as terrorism and public health.

The EU Ambassador, Mr. Skinnebach, expressed optimism about the future of Ghana-EU relations, stressing that the partnership is built on shared values and mutual interests.

This latest dialogue signals a renewed push to consolidate Ghana’s role as a key player in West Africa’s economic and security landscape, while reinforcing the EU’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in the region.
