President John Dramani Mahama has officially commissioned a new Chancery building for Ghana’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking a major milestone in the country’s diplomatic presence in the region.
The project, which commenced in 2016, reflects Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing its representation within the African Union’s headquarters city.
The commissioning ceremony brought together dignitaries including Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, members of the diplomatic corps in Addis Ababa, and the Ghanaian community.
Speaking at the event, President Mahama emphasized the importance of the new facility in advancing Ghana’s foreign policy objectives and fostering closer cooperation with Ethiopia and other African nations. He noted that the chancery would serve as a hub for promoting Ghana’s interests and deepening ties across the continent.
The Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Gedion Timothewos, congratulated Ghana on the achievement and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral collaboration.
The new chancery is expected to provide modern facilities to support diplomatic work, cultural exchange, and community engagement, reinforcing Ghana’s role as a key player in African diplomacy.
