The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Peru, has launched a commemorative book titled “Peru–Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation” as part of Peru’s “Immortalizing Bilateral Relations” series. The publication, unveiled on Thursday, March 5, 2026, documents nearly four decades of diplomatic engagement between the two nations since the establishment of formal relations in 1987.
The book highlights key milestones, shared values, and cooperative initiatives that have strengthened ties between Ghana and Peru. Delivering his remarks, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), described the publication as an important record of the shared journey between the two countries. He noted that despite being located on opposite sides of the Atlantic, Ghana and Peru are united by common values of democracy, multilateralism, and inclusive development.
Hon. Ablakwa underscored the distinguished legacy both nations share within the United Nations, recalling the leadership of former Secretaries-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar of Peru and Kofi Annan of Ghana, whose contributions continue to inspire global diplomacy. He emphasized that Peru remains a vital partner in advancing cooperation in trade, education, tourism, culture, and multilateral diplomacy. The commemorative book, he added, serves not only as a reflection on past achievements but also as a roadmap for future collaboration.
Peru’s Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Rosa Liliana Gómez de Weston, described the book as a tangible expression of the friendship built over the years. She highlighted the similar historical experiences of both nations, shaped by struggles for independence, nation-building, and the pursuit of development. She noted that relations continue to expand through trade, cultural exchanges, academic collaboration, and cooperation in international organizations.
The launch event brought together members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional leaders, senior government officials, and academia, underscoring the broad support for strengthening Ghana–Peru relations.
