GCBC Meets Minority Leadership on National Concerns

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has granted an audience to a delegation of the Minority Leadership in Parliament, led by Hon. Afenyo Markin, during the Conference’s Plenary Assembly. The meeting, held at the request of the Minority Caucus, focused on pressing issues of governance, democratic accountability, social cohesion, and the welfare of the Ghanaian people.

The engagement reflects the Conference’s longstanding commitment to constructive dialogue with state institutions and key actors within Ghana’s democratic architecture. The Minority Leadership expressed appreciation to the Bishops for the opportunity to engage in what they described as a frank and reflective conversation on matters critical to the health of the nation’s constitutional democracy.

Discussions covered a wide range of concerns, including legislative practice, the administration of justice, institutional independence, constitutional governance, social policy, and the management of national resources.

The Bishops reiterated the Church’s enduring commitment to the common good, ethical public life, and the deepening of Ghana’s democratic culture. They emphasized the need for leadership rooted in integrity, patriotism, dialogue, and service to the people, while cautioning against political polarization, vindictiveness, and governance practices that erode public trust in national institutions.

In their remarks, the Bishops stressed that the Church remains ready to speak responsibly on issues affecting society, particularly where truth, justice, peace, and human dignity are at stake. They encouraged continued engagement among political actors and urged all stakeholders to prioritize the long-term stability and moral health of the nation above transient political advantage.

The meeting was held in a cordial and reflective atmosphere, with both parties affirming the importance of sustained dialogue in the collective pursuit of national cohesion, accountable governance, and the flourishing of Ghana’s democratic project.
