The Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, has reaffirmed the media’s critical role in promoting economic stability, transparency, and national development. She made the remarks on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the World Press Freedom Honours Night in Accra.
Addressing journalists, media practitioners, and key stakeholders, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu underscored responsible journalism as vital to strengthening public confidence, combating misinformation, and supporting informed economic decision-making. “Credibility is the currency of journalism. Once spent recklessly, it is difficult to regain,” she cautioned.
She outlined the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to deeper media engagement through journalist training programmes, greater Monetary Policy Committee transparency, regional press outreach, and strategic partnerships to promote excellence in economic and financial reporting.
Her remarks highlighted the central role of the press in shaping public discourse and sustaining Ghana’s economic progress, reinforcing the need for collaboration between the financial sector and the media in advancing national development.
