Ghana’s Black Queens are bracing for one of their toughest challenges yet at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as they prepare to lock horns with host nation Morocco in a highly anticipated semi-final showdown at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Thursday, July 25, 2025 at 8:00 PM GMT.
After a thrilling quarter-final performance that saw the Queens edge out Nigeria in a penalty shootout, confidence is running high in the Ghanaian camp. But standing in their way is a red-hot Moroccan side that has thrilled home fans with dazzling football, solid teamwork, and an unbeaten run through the tournament so far.
Coach Nora Hauptle believes her side is ready for the task ahead.
“We know Morocco is a strong team and playing at home gives them added energy. But our girls have shown heart, discipline, and hunger throughout this tournament. We’re going all in,” Hauptle said in the pre-match press conference.
The Black Queens have not reached the finals of AFCON since 1998, and this semi-final presents a golden opportunity to rewrite history. Ghana’s standout players Evelyn Badu, Grace Asantewaa, and veteran defender Janet Egyir will be key to neutralizing Morocco’s fast-paced attack led by star forward Ghizlane Chebbak.
The Moroccans, backed by a passionate home crowd, will also be seeking revenge after a painful group-stage exit in the 2022 edition. Coach Reynald Pedros has transformed the side into a tactically sharp unit capable of quick counterattacks and solid defensive blocks.
With a place in the AFCON 2024 final and a potential ticket to the 2026 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on the line, all eyes will be on Rabat this Thursday.
