Baraka Policy Institute holds its 8th annual public lectures

The Baraka Policy Institute addresses the socioeconomic barriers preventing Ghana’s advancement and the sustainable development goals on education during its 8th BPI lecture, which was presented on Wednesday, 16th November, 2022, at the British Council.

The theme for this year’s lecture was Towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals SDG’s on Education and tackling socioeconomic forces against progress in Ghana.

The event was chaired by Mr. Anis Haffar, the Board Chairman of the National Teaching Council with other dignitaries gracing the Occassion.AA

The Executive Director of Baraka Policy Institute, Dr. Haruna Zagoon Sayeed explained the reason for this year’s lecture and the challenges it seeks to solve.

He says this year’s edition was centered on education and he believes from the discussions, changes will be effected in the education sector.

The  minister of education,  Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum, describe the measures government is putting in place for TVET education.

Dr. Adam Yunus on his part, gave a presentation on a research work by the Baraka Policy Institute on sports betting and its effect on education. He says in terms of education, sports betting has grown to be a significant problem.

Sports gamblers he said are typically drawn to the activity by advertisements, peer pressure, and occasionally even family influence, which is extremely dangerous for kids who should be in school.

He also proffered certain solutions to remedy the issues on betting affecting school children.

He added that he is  doing everything in his power to stop misconduct during examination and also to prevent  examination malpractice which has become very common in the  education sector.

On his part, Dr. Gamel Nasser Adam and Educationist lectured on the issue of the national development agenda and Ghana’s system of education, challenges and prospects whiles Mr. Kwame Akyea also delivering a speech on removing difficulties for the Ghanaian school child.

The special guest of honour, Minister for Education Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum thanked the Baraka Policy Institute for their efforts. He also elaborated on the measures government is putting in place especially in TVET education.
