Alhaji Abdulsalam Mohammed Daaru has officially withdrawn from the race to become the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, citing party unity and wise counsel from senior party figures.
In a press release dated January 27, 2026, Daaru expressed deep gratitude to the youth of the constituency, especially the Nima Youth for Abdulsalam Daaru, who mobilized resources and picked nomination forms on his behalf. “Your belief in my leadership means more to me than words can adequately express,” he stated.
Daaru announced his full support for Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP, whose commitment to youth empowerment he described as deeply aligned with his own convictions.
He emphasized that his decision to step aside does not mark a retreat from public service but rather a strategic move to promote unity, stability, and a stronger future for the party and the constituency.
The NDC primary has attracted four aspirants, with Hajia Amina Adam emerging as a frontrunner following Daaru’s endorsement. The by-election was necessitated by the passing of the former MP, and the party is expected to announce its candidate soon.
Alhaji Abdulsalam reaffirmed his dedication to the youth and the ideals of the NDC, concluding his statement with a rallying call: “Together, we move forward.”
