Mahama’s Accra Reset Gains Global Momentum

Former President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship initiative, the Accra Reset, which champions health sovereignty for the Global South, continues to attract growing international support.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Mahama announced new members of the Presidential Council, now comprising sitting Presidents and Prime Ministers of South Africa, Kenya, India, Brazil, Egypt, Barbados, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia and Nigeria.

He further unveiled a distinguished Circle of Guardians, featuring eminent African leaders including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former Malawian President Joyce Banda, former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor, former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, and former Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim.

The initiative also welcomed former Prime Ministers Gro Harlem Brundtland of Norway, Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe of Ethiopia, Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom, Helen Clark of New Zealand, P.J. Patterson of Jamaica, and Romano Prodi of Italy. Former African Union Chairperson Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has also joined the circle.

President Mahama emphasized that the Accra Reset is designed to co-create solutions with global partners to address pressing health challenges, while reinforcing Ghana’s leadership role in international development.

“Ghana’s stature in the comity of nations continues to soar higher and brighter,” he said, pledging to work tirelessly with partners to uplift the country’s image and advance solutions for the people.

The Accra Reset, launched to strengthen health sovereignty and resilience across the Global South, is increasingly seen as a rallying point for collaborative leadership and innovative policy responses to global health challenges.
