Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commended the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation for its sweeping reforms under the Reset Agenda, with particular emphasis on the One Million Coders Program aimed at training 400,000 people in digital skills within the year.
The Vice President was received by Minister Hon. Samuel Nartey George, his Deputy, agency heads, and staff during her visit. The Minister outlined ongoing reforms, including a review of all 11 agencies to enhance performance, measures to tackle misinformation and hate speech through a forthcoming bill, and strengthened procurement controls to prevent duplication and waste in ICT contracts.
He further highlighted progress at the Ghana Domain Name Registry, improved rural connectivity, interventions to reduce mobile data costs, and steps toward a robust national AI strategy. The Ministry has also intensified cybersecurity enforcement, recording nearly 1,000 arrests in 2025 linked to cybercrime, and has transitioned to a fully paperless system since July 1, improving efficiency and workflow tracking.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang praised the Ministry’s achievements and expressed her personal passion for the One Million Coders Program, stressing the importance of long-term planning to ensure training translates into real opportunities and positions Ghana competitively in the global digital economy. She also applauded Ghana Post’s leadership and the training of girls in ICT and coding, urging collaboration across institutions to avoid silos and turf wars.
“It is very important for us to address misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech because peace remains the foundation of national progress,” she stated, while encouraging continued focus and deliberate delivery to leave Ghana better than it was found.
The visit underscored government’s commitment to digital transformation, innovation, and inclusive growth, with the One Million Coders Program standing out as a flagship initiative to empower Ghana’s youth and strengthen national self-reliance in technology.
