The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region for possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and a firearm without lawful authority.
The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was picked up by the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit following intelligence reports that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was allegedly engaged in criminal activities and posed a security risk to residents.
A search conducted in the suspect’s residence uncovered large quantities of US dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations, a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight rounds of 9mm blank ammunition.
Police say the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to determine the source and authenticity of the foreign currency, as well as the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other items.
Authorities have assured the public that they remain committed to intensifying surveillance and cracking down on criminal activities to safeguard communities.
