The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has visited the family of eight-year-old Jalila Abdul Jalil, a Class Two pupil of St. Olives Grammar Boarding School in Dodowa, following reports of alleged abuse aired by Channel One TV.

The Minister’s visit was to express government’s sympathy and assure the family of the State’s commitment to Jalila’s safety, recovery, and future. Addressing the family, Dr. Lartey described the incident as “unfortunate” and reaffirmed her resolve to ensure the child receives comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and welfare support.
She stressed that the Ministry will follow the case to its conclusion, emphasizing that “anybody who harms a child harms the nation,” and assuring the family that the law will take its full course irrespective of who is involved.
As part of the visit, the Minister donated Gh¢5,000 in cash, food items, and household supplies to support the family. Jalila’s relatives expressed gratitude for the gesture but appealed for swift justice in the case.
Dr. Lartey also commended Channel One TV and other media outlets for bringing the issue to public attention, noting that responsible journalism plays a critical role in protecting vulnerable children and ensuring accountability.
She was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Madam Malonin Asibi, Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, and other officials.
