The late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Mahama Naser Toure, was laid to rest today in accordance with Islamic rites, following his passing on Sunday, 4 January, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
A Janazah prayer was held at 10:00 a.m. at the National Mosque in Accra, led by the National Chief Imam. The solemn ceremony was attended by family members, colleagues in Parliament, party officials, and residents of Ayawaso East. The body was later conveyed to the Madina Cemetery, where he was buried in line with Islamic tradition.
Imam Musharudeen Sadeeq Maiga of the Ghana Armed Forces joined the prayers, offering his reasons for attending and invoking blessings for the deceased. Several Imams from the Zongo community also expressed solidarity messages after the burial.
Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, a four-term legislator, was widely respected for his dedication to public service. He served in key parliamentary roles, including Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, and as a member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.
Beyond Parliament, he was recognised for his commitment to community development, notably through initiatives such as Operation Cement Your Lungu, which aimed to improve sanitation and uplift underserved neighbourhoods.
His passing marks a significant loss to Parliament and the Ayawaso East constituency, where he was celebrated as a tireless advocate for progress and a servant of the people.
