La Court Remands Sisters Over Attack on 12-Year-Old

The La District Court has remanded two women accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl near La Roman Junior High School.

The accused, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, are facing three charges — conspiracy, assault, and cruelty to a child. Their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, is currently on the run and being pursued by police.

Both women pleaded not guilty but were ordered into custody for two weeks after the court rejected a bail application filed by their lawyer.

Prosecutor Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare opposed the bail request, arguing that remand was necessary to allow police to complete investigations. She further told the court the accused posed a flight risk. The case has been adjourned to January 19, 2026.

Outlining the facts, Chief Inspector Asare said the victim, whose identity has been withheld, frequently visited the Mesopeh household to run errands and assist with domestic chores.

On December 30, 2025, the victim reportedly had a disagreement with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother, which escalated into a fight that left the boy injured.

According to the prosecution, the boy later informed his family, after which the accused allegedly sought out the victim and assaulted her, inflicting injuries and bodily pain.

A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, prompting police action and the subsequent arrest of the accused for prosecution.
