National Service Scandal: Auditor-General Issues Surcharges Against Public Officers

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that public officers implicated in the National Service Secretariat (NSC) scandal have been formally surcharged following investigations into the misuse of state funds.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, Dr. Ayine stated that his office continues to collaborate with other state institutions to bring charges based on oral investigation reports submitted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

“Further to the update I provided during my press conference on the buffer stock scandal, my office continues to work with other institutions of state to bring charges in relation to the oral investigation reports submitted by the National Intelligence Bureau,” he said.

Dr. Ayine revealed that, following discussions with the Auditor-General, the sums involved in the NSC scandal have been disallowed and surcharged on the public officers who oversaw the misappropriation of funds.

“The notices of disallowance and surcharge have been duly issued and served on the said public officers,” he added, signaling a firm stance on accountability and recovery of public funds.

The announcement marks a significant step in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts and reinforces the government’s commitment to transparency and justice.
