Lawyers for Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, and Akonta Mining say they will seek a court order compelling the prosecution to release documents they claim are crucial to their defence.
The defence argues that key materials necessary to prepare their case were missing from the disclosures submitted by the State.
Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and Akonta Mining face trial over allegations that they allowed mining activities on their Samreboi concession without the required approvals.
Tuesday’s scheduled case management conference was meant to set the stage for the trial. However, lead defence counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi informed the court that a formal application for further disclosures would be filed, after the prosecution maintained that the documents submitted on October 31 and November 11 were complete.
Appiah-Kubi said the defence had expected additional documents, including materials not intended as evidence but potentially useful for case preparation. He added that while a motion for full disclosure had already been drafted, it was not yet filed, prompting a request for extra time.
The presiding judge instructed the defence to file and serve the motion on the prosecution when ready. The court also ordered the accused to submit the names and addresses of witnesses they intend to call should the prosecution establish a prima facie case.
The matter has been adjourned to December 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., when the defence’s application for additional disclosures will be heard.
