Three Arrested for Looting Cargo After Highway Accident

The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command has taken three suspects into custody for allegedly stealing cartons of sardines from a cargo truck that overturned on the Accra–Kumasi highway at Kwahu Fodua.

The truck, a fully loaded container with registration number AA 119CY, was en route from Accra to Kumasi when it toppled, blocking traffic in both directions. Both the driver and his mate were on board at the time of the crash.

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver swerved to avoid a pothole in the middle of the road, which caused the container to tip over.

The accident drew a large crowd of residents and motorists. While some assisted in clearing the obstruction and helping with towing efforts, three individuals were spotted removing cartons of sardines from the damaged vehicle. They were promptly apprehended and handed over to the police.

Authorities confirmed that the injured driver and his mate are receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw.

Police say investigations are ongoing and have cautioned the public against exploiting accident scenes for theft, stressing that such acts will be met with swift prosecution.
