NIA Begins Issuance of Ghana Cards to Children Aged 6–14

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced the issuance and collection of Ghana Cards for children aged 6 to 14 years across selected districts in the country. The exercise, which officially began today, Monday, October 6, 2025, marks the first phase of card distribution for children who have already registered.

According to a press release signed by Mr. Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs Directorate, the exercise will initially cover 56 districts nationwide, with additional districts to be announced in due course. The issuance will be carried out at designated registration points, particularly in schools where the children were originally registered.

The NIA emphasized that parents and legal guardians are required to accompany their children to the registration centres and must present the issued Form A or receipt received during registration. Each child must also be physically present to complete the process.

Among the districts listed in the first batch are Asunafo South, Tano North, Asante Akim North, Dormaa Central, Kintampo North, Assin Central, Effutu Municipal, Akuapem North, New Juaben South, Ablekuma West, Accra Metro, Ashaiman, Bolga Municipal, Jirapa Municipal, Hohoe, Keta, Sekondi, Takoradi, and Sefwi Akontombra.

The Authority assured the public that with the backlog of unprinted Ghana Cards now cleared, it is fully prepared to ensure a smooth and efficient exercise. It also noted that details regarding the resumption of fresh registrations for children in the same age group would be announced later.

The Ghana Card is a key requirement for accessing various services, and the extension of its issuance to children is seen as a step towards ensuring that every Ghanaian is captured under the national identification system.

The NIA called on the public to cooperate fully with officials to ensure a successful exercise.
