NDC Opens Nominations for Tamale Central Parliamentary Primary Following MP’s Death

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially commenced the nomination process for its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency, beginning Friday, August 22.

This move follows the untimely demise of the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who perished in a fatal helicopter crash on August 6, which claimed eight lives.

In a press release dated Wednesday, August 20, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC announced that nomination forms would be accessible at the party’s Northern Regional Office for both collection and submission.

The nomination window, which opened today, will remain open until Sunday, August 24.

The statement also outlined the procedures for the primaries, noting that a verified list of delegates will be made available to candidates after the vetting process concludes.

Nomination forms are priced at GH₵5,000, with a filing fee of GH₵40,000. However, women and individuals living with disabilities will benefit from a 50% reduction in the filing fee.

In a related development, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will not participate in the upcoming by-election in Tamale Central. The party stated that its decision was made in honor of the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed, whose passing has deeply affected the constituency.
