Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP),Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, , has officially entered the race for the party’s 2026 presidential primaries by picking up nomination forms.
The announcement was made via a Facebook post by Kwesi Kwarteng, spokesperson for Agyapong’s campaign team, confirming the seasoned politician’s renewed quest to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Agyapong, widely recognized for his forthright demeanor and uncompromising stance on national issues, served in Parliament for nearly 20 years, beginning his tenure in 2001. Over the years, he has built a reputation for speaking candidly on matters of corruption, governance, and internal party affairs.
In the party’s 2024 presidential primaries, Agyapong made a strong showing, finishing second behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. His performance surprised many political analysts and significantly boosted his standing among the party’s grassroots supporters.
His decision to contest again in 2026 is seen as a continuation of his long-held ambition to lead the NPP and ultimately serve as President of Ghana.
Outside the political arena, Agyapong is a successful entrepreneur with investments spanning media, real estate, and agriculture. He owns Net2 TV and Oman FM, two influential media outlets that have amplified his voice on national issues.
His campaign has consistently emphasized themes of patriotism, discipline, and job creation messages that resonate with many ordinary Ghanaians.
The NPP opened nominations for the flagbearer race on July 29, 2025, with the process set to close on August 28. Candidates are required to pay a GH¢100,000 nomination fee and a GH¢500,000 filing fee, along with an additional development levy. Vetting of aspirants will take place in September, with final balloting scheduled for October.
As the race intensifies, Agyapong and Dr. Bawumia are once again emerging as frontrunners, setting the stage for a potentially fierce contest within the party.
