The Burkinabe junta leader and head of state, Ibrahim Traoré, has decided to make some big changes, known as “institutional reforms”, after a meeting with his ministers on Wednesday.
According to Pingdwendé Ouédraogo, who speaks for the government, these changes are meant to help the government run more smoothly.
The Minister of State, Emile Zerbo, explained that one of the reasons for this decision is that a certain organization costs the government a lot of money, “subsidized to nearly half a billion CFA francs each year”, and that this is not allowed according to the rules of the Transition Charter, making it “totally inconsistent with the provisions of the Transition Charter” and also “budget-hungry”.
Zerbo also said that this organization has been influenced by foreign powers, which is not good, and that getting rid of it will help the country to have more control over its own elections, which would “reinforce our sovereign control on the electoral process” due to the “interference from foreign influences”.
