Ghana Begins Evacuation of Citizens from Iran Amid Escalating Conflict

The Government of Ghana has commenced the evacuation of its citizens from Iran following intensified hostilities between Israel and Iran.

The announcement was made by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who stated that the evacuation is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals residing in the region.

The evacuation plan, coordinated by Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Iran, will facilitate the relocation of students, professionals, business personnel, and other Ghanaian residents to neighboring countries via land borders.

Priority is being given to families and individuals in high-risk zones, as concerns mount over the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Tehran and surrounding cities.

This move follows Ghana’s closure of its embassy in Tehran, with Foreign Affairs officials citing rising geopolitical tensions as the basis for shutting down diplomatic operations.

The Ghanaian government has also advised citizens in Israel to stay in close contact with the consular department as the conflict spreads across the region.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ablakwa urged all Ghanaians in Iran to comply with evacuation directives and cooperate with diplomatic officials to ensure a safe and orderly departure.

He reiterated Ghana’s call for international dialogue and conflict resolution, emphasizing the need for de-escalation to protect civilians caught in the crisis.

Ghana joins several nations taking steps to evacuate their citizens, as airspace restrictions and security alerts continue to impact travel across the Middle East. Authorities have assured that emergency communication channels remain open for Ghanaians seeking assistance during the evacuation process.
