GRNMA pledges non-partisan advocacy and continued support for healthcare

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has reiterated its dedication to patient care and non-partisan advocacy, following the suspension of its nationwide strike.

The association emphasized that its actions are driven solely by the welfare of nurses, midwives, and the healthcare system, rather than political affiliations.

In a statement issued after fruitful discussions with Parliament’s Select Committee on Health, the GRNMA clarified that its recent industrial action was not politically motivated but aimed at securing the implementation of a Collective Agreement signed in May 2024.

The strike, which began on June 2, 2025, escalated into a full withdrawal of services by June 9, severely impacting healthcare delivery across the country.

The association assured the public that it remains committed to building a resilient health system and has worked with every government since its establishment in 1960.

It urged nurses and midwives to resume their duties from June 14, while a follow-up meeting with Parliament is scheduled for June 26 to finalize the agreement’s implementation.

GRNMA also addressed concerns about misinformation surrounding the strike, emphasizing that its primary focus is advocating for better conditions for healthcare professionals while ensuring quality patient care.
