President John Dramani Mahama today inspected progress on the construction of a new 1,500‑capacity multipurpose assembly hall at the Peki College of Education, reaffirming Government’s commitment to completing critical educational infrastructure projects across the country.
During the visit, the President recalled that the project was initiated under his previous administration alongside a girls’ hostel, which has since been completed and serving students. He expressed satisfaction that work has resumed on the auditorium after years of inactivity, describing it as an important investment in the future of teacher education.
Commending the quality of work, President Mahama said the modern assembly hall will provide a conducive space for academic, social, and institutional activities while enhancing the overall learning environment on campus. He disclosed that the project is nearing completion, with the delivery and installation of furniture being the final component required before commissioning.
The President also reassured students and trainee teachers of Government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for graduates. He announced that clearance has been granted for the recruitment of at least 16,000 newly trained teachers and graduates from the colleges of education to address the backlog of professionals awaiting placement.
Reiterating Government’s resolve to improve conditions across colleges of education, President Mahama highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, student accommodation, and other essential facilities aimed at strengthening teaching and learning outcomes. He encouraged students to remain dedicated to their studies, stressing that Ghana’s future depends on a well‑trained, skilled, and motivated generation of young professionals.
