Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku‑Agyemang has lauded the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, his deputies, and staff of the Ministry of Finance for their commitment to reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and advancing Government’s Reset Agenda.
The commendation came during her working visit to the Ministry, part of a series of engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) designed to strengthen coordination with the Presidency, assess progress on national priorities, and understand institutional challenges.
Briefing the Vice President, officials outlined Ghana’s fiscal outlook and ongoing reforms to stabilise the economy. They highlighted the difficult fiscal conditions inherited by Government and the measures being implemented to improve performance. Progress in debt restructuring was underscored, including successful Eurobond repayments and other major commitments, with preparations underway to meet upcoming obligations. The Ministry reaffirmed its pledge to restore fiscal discipline and reduce the deficit over the medium term.
Updates also covered key policy reforms and achievements: amendments to the Public Financial Management and Public Procurement Acts, enactment of the Value for Money Act, improved domestic revenue mobilisation, restructuring of COCOBOD, and increased funding for flagship initiatives such as the Big Push infrastructure programme and the Women’s Development Bank.
Addressing management and staff, Professor Opoku‑Agyemang praised Dr. Forson, Deputy Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, and the entire workforce for their professionalism and dedication. She stressed that the Ministry’s decisions directly affect the lives of Ghanaians, underscoring the importance of prudent and transparent financial management. While acknowledging the heavy burden of debt servicing, she reaffirmed Government’s commitment to sustaining reforms, promoting value addition, and strengthening sound budgeting practices.
The Vice President expressed appreciation to all staff, including technical officers and support personnel, for their invaluable contributions to Government’s vision of building a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous Ghana.
