Vice President Visits Interior Ministry, Calls for Public Trust and Education to Strengthen Security

The Vice President of the Republic, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku‑Agyemang, has underscored the importance of public trust and education in strengthening Ghana’s security architecture during a working visit to the Ministry of the Interior.

The visit, part of her ongoing tour of government ministries, was aimed at bridging communication between the Presidency and key institutions, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to accessibility and collaboration across sectors.

Welcomed by staff and agency heads, Prof. Opoku‑Agyemang commended the Ministry for its punctuality and dedication, noting its unique role in safeguarding lives through peace, security, public safety, and law enforcement. “Peace and security are not luxuries, they are critical to our daily lives and to national development,” she emphasized.

The Vice President urged more aggressive public education on government programmes and interventions, stressing that their success depends on citizens’ understanding. She also called for sensitization on public safety regulations to ensure compliance and community cooperation. “Security is the precursor to everything. Without it, nothing else can thrive,” she stated.

She reiterated government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for economic development, cautioning that progress cannot be achieved without peace and security.

Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak, in his welcome remarks, described the Vice President’s visit as a source of motivation. He highlighted recent milestones, including the advancement of key bills such as the Security and Intelligence Agencies Bill, the Ghana Prisons Service Bill, the Community Service Bill 2025, and the Private Security Organization Act.

Institutional reforms, he noted, include the establishment of 24‑Hour Economy units within security agencies, strengthened financial management, safety upgrades at the Ministry’s headquarters, and progress on a new office complex. He also announced the launch of the Ministry’s first e‑Services platform, through which 1,499 e‑Visas have already been issued.

The Vice President’s tour forms part of a broader presidential initiative to engage directly with ministries, assess progress, and provide guidance in support of the administration’s development agenda.
