MoH Launches Initiative To Expand Medical Oxygen Access

The Ministry of Health has officially launched a national initiative to expand access to medical oxygen across Ghana, underscoring government’s commitment to strengthening lifesaving healthcare delivery.

At a stakeholder meeting held on 17 June 2026, the Ministry unveiled the programme, which is being implemented with technical support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). The initiative is designed to build a resilient oxygen ecosystem—covering production, distribution, regulation, clinical use, data systems, and sustainable financing—to ensure reliable access to medical oxygen, particularly in underserved regions.

The launch brought together representatives from government institutions, regulatory agencies, development partners, and industry stakeholders. Officials emphasized that medical oxygen remains a critical resource for treating respiratory illnesses, maternal and child health complications, and emergency care, making its availability central to Ghana’s broader health reforms.

By strengthening infrastructure and coordination, the Ministry aims to reduce preventable deaths, improve clinical outcomes, and advance equitable healthcare delivery nationwide.
