The Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice has formally notified the High Court in Accra of the commencement of plea negotiations involving Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi.
In a notice dated June 11, 2026, Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai confirmed that the 1st accused person, through his counsel Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, Esq., has requested to initiate plea discussions under Section 162C(3) of Act 30.
The case, filed under docket number CR/0529/2026, lists the Republic as plaintiff against three defendants: Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, his brother Thomas Antwi-Boasiako (currently at large), and Wontumi Farms Limited.
The notification, addressed to the Registrar of the High Court (General Jurisdiction), Accra, indicates that the plea negotiation process has officially begun and copies have been served on the accused persons and their legal representatives.
This development marks a significant turn in the ongoing trial, as plea bargaining—introduced into Ghana’s criminal justice system in recent years—offers accused persons the opportunity to negotiate reduced charges or sentences in exchange for admissions of guilt or cooperation.
