Finance Minister Files Tax Returns, Urges Compliance as Civic Duty

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, together with his Deputy, has publicly filed their annual tax returns, underscoring the importance of leadership by example in strengthening Ghana’s tax culture.

Speaking after the filing, Dr. Forson congratulated Ghanaian taxpayers for their consistent efforts in supporting national development through compliance. He emphasized that paying taxes is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility that ensures fairness and accelerates progress.

“Tax revenue funds our schools, hospitals, roads, and security systems. When each of us pays our fair share, the burden is distributed more equitably and development is accelerated,” he noted.

The Minister commended the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for its work, particularly during April’s Tax and Good Governance Month, which he described as an important platform to educate, engage, and encourage voluntary compliance. He urged the Authority to intensify public education and continue reforms aimed at simplifying processes, reducing compliance costs, and improving transparency.

Dr. Forson assured that the Ministry of Finance stands ready to support the GRA in fully delivering on its mandate. He encouraged those yet to file their returns to do so promptly, taking advantage of digital platforms and available support systems.

“A strong tax culture strengthens economic stability, deepens accountability, and builds a fairer society. Let us work together, through compliance and integrity, to build a more transparent, resilient, and prosperous Ghana,” he concluded.
