The Accra Regional Police Command has begun a manhunt for suspects involved in a violent disturbance and unlawful discharge of firearms at the Kotoku Onion Market in the Adjen Kotoku District of the Amasaman Division.
According to police, the incident on April 6, 2026, stemmed from disagreements among five onion sellers’ associations over the distribution of supplies from foreign traders. The dispute escalated into clashes, during which gunshots were fired from an unidentified location.
Officers responded swiftly to the scene but were unable to immediately trace those responsible for the gunfire. Patrol teams were subsequently deployed to maintain order, while police engaged the leadership of the associations to de-escalate tensions.
The Command has since intensified patrols in the area to prevent further disturbances and assured the public that the situation remains under control.
In a statement, the police cautioned against acts of violence and the unlawful use of firearms, urging all parties to resolve disputes through lawful means. The leadership of the associations has pledged cooperation with law enforcement to restore calm.
The Accra Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order, stressing that suspects involved in the incident will be brought to justice.
