The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament began its zonal public hearings in Tamale on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, to scrutinise the management of public funds by various institutions.
The hearings are focused on examining the Auditor-General’s reports on the utilisation of the District Assemblies Common Fund and other statutory funds for the financial year ending December 31, 2024.
Chairperson of the Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, assured the public of a transparent and fair process, stressing that all infractions captured in the report would be thoroughly interrogated. She noted that since the reports under review covered a period when she served in government, she had handed over proceedings for the day to the Ranking Member, Hon. Samuel Atta Mills.
District Assemblies that appeared before the Committee included Nanumba North (Bimbilla), Nantong, Savelugu, Kumbungu, Sagnarigu, Gushegu, Saboba, Karaga, and Nanumba South. Educational institutions also facing the Committee were Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education, Bagabaga College of Education, St. Charles Senior High School, and Islamic Senior High School.
Earlier in the day, members of the Committee paid a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, to formally notify him of their presence in the region and seek his support.
The PAC is expected to continue its sittings on Wednesday, extending its hearings to cover Colleges of Education and institutions from the Savannah and North East Regions.
