The Human Trafficking Secretariat (HTS) of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has successfully conducted a comprehensive training session aimed at enhancing the capacity of selected staff to combat human trafficking more effectively.
Organized in collaboration with the law firm Zoe, Akyea & Co., the initiative forms part of the Secretariat’s broader strategy to deepen institutional understanding of trafficking issues and strengthen frontline responses.
Training Focus
- Moving beyond general awareness, the session provided practical knowledge on the nature, causes, and consequences of human trafficking.
- Emphasis was placed on the 4Ps framework — Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership — to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach.
- Participants engaged in interactive presentations and case studies, designed to improve decision-making and inter-departmental coordination.
Expert Contributions
Officials from Zoe, Akyea & Co. delivered technical and legal presentations, offering insights into:
- National and international legal frameworks governing human trafficking.
- The prosecution process and victim rights.
- Strategies for effective collaboration with legal stakeholders in addressing trafficking cases.
Ministry’s Commitment
Madam Abena Annobea Asare, Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, described the training as a vital step in empowering staff to identify, prevent, and respond to trafficking cases. She stressed that equipping personnel with the right tools is essential in the fight against modern-day slavery.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, ensuring transparency, and safeguarding victims’ rights, while working closely with partners to eradicate human trafficking across Ghana.
