Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings Calls for Affordable Food Services in Institutions

The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has highlighted the urgent need for affordable food services within large corporate and institutional premises such as hospitals, banks, ministries, and major private-sector establishments.

Presenting a statement before Parliament, she noted that many workers struggle to access reasonably priced meals during working hours. She explained that when food services are deliberately included in institutional designs and priced affordably, it reduces the pressure that forces vendors and workers into unauthorized spaces.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings therefore proposed that relevant regulatory authorities — including the Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies — develop guidelines to encourage large institutions and public facilities to incorporate affordable cafeterias or food courts within their premises as part of planning approvals for major developments.

Her call underscores the growing recognition of food accessibility as a workplace welfare issue, linking nutrition, productivity, and institutional planning.
