Ghana and Belarus Strengthen Bilateral Ties

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), held bilateral discussions with his Belarusian counterpart, His Excellency Maxim Ryzhenkov, on Wednesday, 4th March 2026.

During the meeting, Honourable Ablakwa emphasized Ghana’s commitment to deepening political and economic cooperation with Belarus, noting the importance of translating the growing goodwill between the two nations into tangible outcomes. He highlighted key areas for collaboration, including agricultural mechanisation, education, and trade and investment. Ablakwa underscored Belarus’ expertise in agricultural mechanisation and expressed Ghana’s interest in exploring partnerships that would bolster the country’s agricultural sector. He also proposed discussions on visa facilitation arrangements to ease travel and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

His Excellency Ryzhenkov reaffirmed Belarus’ readiness to expand cooperation with Ghana, particularly in agriculture, industry, trade, and technology. He outlined several proposed agreements to provide a stronger legal and institutional framework for bilateral relations, including accords on visa facilitation, customs cooperation, investment protection, and the establishment of a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation.

Both sides also discussed the importance of enhancing relations through high-level visits. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the longstanding ties of friendship between Ghana and Belarus, and a shared commitment to advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
