“Your Appointment Is a Call to Service,” Mahama Tells Envoys

President John Dramani Mahama has urged newly appointed diplomatic representatives to regard their roles not as personal accolades but as a solemn duty of national service, rooted in discipline, prudent judgement, and steadfast loyalty to Ghana’s overarching national interest.

Addressing their swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House on Monday, 9 February, President Mahama emphasized that the officials now bear an elevated responsibility to advance Ghana’s unity, values, credibility, and aspirations both at home and abroad.

“Your appointment is not merely an honour; it is a call to high national service,” the President declared. “From this moment onwards, you must embody Ghana’s unity, its values, credibility and aspirations.”

He underscored that their actions must transcend partisan agendas and be guided solely by what best serves the Republic of Ghana.

President Mahama explained that the envoys were chosen for their integrity, competence, and experience—qualities he described as indispensable for effective leadership in today’s increasingly complex global arena.

He noted that they assume office during a period of significant global transformation, marked by intensifying geopolitical rivalries, economic restructuring, rapid technological shifts, and mounting climate challenges—all reshaping the landscape of diplomacy.

“In this environment, Ghana expects sound judgement, strategic thinking, discipline, leadership and an unwavering commitment to our national interest,” the President affirmed.

He stressed that modern diplomacy extends beyond ceremonial duties, requiring clarity of purpose, professionalism, and the skill to balance competing global interests while safeguarding Ghana’s long-term priorities.

President Mahama urged the envoys to approach their responsibilities with seriousness, reminding them that their conduct reflects not only on the government but on the nation as a whole. He reiterated his confidence in their ability to serve with distinction and uphold the highest standards of integrity and patriotism.
