DVLA Clarifies Onboarding Fees and Title Documentation

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued a public notice to clarify the cost and purpose of its ongoing vehicle onboarding exercise, urging vehicle owners to remain vigilant and deal only with authorized officers.

According to the Authority, the onboarding process—which began in 2024—is a critical step toward migrating manually registered vehicles onto a digital platform, ahead of the rollout of a new digital licence plate system.

DVLA explained that the full onboarding package, which includes the issuance of a Certificate of Title and a Vehicle Registration Card (VRC), costs GH¢ 288.55. However, in light of the upcoming licence plate changes, the Authority has reviewed the process to allow for a GH¢ 25 biodata verification fee. This reduced fee does not include the Certificate of Title or VRC, which can be obtained later during the new plate acquisition.

The Authority emphasized the importance of the Certificate of Title and VRC in establishing ownership, preventing fraud and theft, facilitating insurance, and maintaining accurate vehicle history records.

DVLA cautioned the public against paying more than the stated GH¢ 25 during the current onboarding phase and urged clients to demand official receipts and report any staff who request extra payments.

Complaints can be directed to 020 322 6006 or via email at info@dvla.gov.gh.

DVLA reiterated its commitment to transparency and thanked the public for their cooperation.
