Vehicle Assemblers to Meet Local Production Threshold for Tax Incentives – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to introduce a minimum local production requirement for vehicle assemblers seeking to benefit from government tax exemptions and incentives.

The President made the disclosure when he commissioned the third assembly plant of Zonda Tec Ghana Ltd in Tema. He explained that the Ministries of Finance and Trade, Agribusiness and Industry will finalise a new incentive regime aimed at deepening local manufacturing and ensuring that companies benefiting from government support make stronger contributions to Ghana’s industrial development.

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu‑Adjare, revealed that the commissioning of Zonda Tec Ghana’s third plant has boosted the company’s annual production capacity to approximately 3,000 heavy and light vehicles. She said the expansion further strengthens Ghana’s position as a credible automotive assembly hub in the West African sub‑region, while advancing government’s agenda to expand industrialisation, create jobs, and promote local manufacturing.

The Chief Executive Officer of Zonda Tec Ghana Ltd, Madam Yang Yang, commended Hon. Ofosu‑Adjare for her pivotal role in facilitating the company’s operations and ensuring the successful introduction of Chery vehicles in Ghana. She described the Chery brand as the Minister’s “baby,” acknowledging her commitment and support in making the brand’s presence in Ghana a reality.

Officials say the new incentive framework will align private‑sector investment with Ghana’s broader industrialisation goals, ensuring that tax benefits translate into tangible local production and economic growth.
