The Al-Wa’ayul Islamie Mosque in the Madina West Zongo community held a walk to launch and create awareness for the Ummah Waqf Fund on Saturday, 12 March 2022.
The walk, which was led by the Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Salman Mohammed Alhassan and the chief of the Zongo community, Chief Dada Abdulai Dagadu saw a number of people walk through the community to create the awareness about the fund.
Speaking to Baina News after the walk, the Chief Imam of the Al-Wa’ayul Islamie Mosque, Sheikh Salman Mohammed Alhassan, explained what the Ummah Waqf Fund means and the need for all Muslims regardless of the location, to contribute their quota for its success.
He said a shortcode has been created to make it convenient for every Muslim to contribute by subscribing through the code.
The deductions could be made on weekly or monthly basis depending on the choice of the subscriber.
He said the Ummah Waqf Fund basically aims to drive the developmental agenda of the Muslim Ummah and one of the key priorities is to build a Muslim run hospital and also provide educational scholarships to brilliant but needy Muslim students.
The Imam assured the general public that the contributions would be dully accounted for and not even a pesewa will be misapplied and also urged everyone to subscribe through the shortcode.
“They should know there is a fund like this and so they should all come on board. They can just go straight on the shortcode *790*40# and then they would register. We would have their details and then finally everybody would know because this is not going into anybody’s pocket.
“It is going to an account which nobody has the right solely to go and withdraw anything from there. It is the whole community, the Imam, the chief, youth leaders and everybody before we can even take one pesewa from the fund. So everything there is secure and protected. It is for the purpose of developing ourselves and developing our community,” he added.
On his part, the Chief of the Madina Zongo Community, Chief Dada Abdulai Dagadu reiterated the importance of the Ummah Waqf Fund to the development of the Muslim Ummah.
He said the Waqf would be beneficial to the Muslim Ummah and there would not be any discrimination in the disbursement of funds to the people.
“This Waqf initiative is for the entire community, it is not for only specific people. We are contributing to be able to build our own hospitals, our own police stations, our own immunization centres and our own schools. That’s the purpose of the contribution. It’s not specific to only some people Sunnah or Tijaniyyah… no. It is for the entire Muslim Ummah in the community and the money would be used in the community,” he further stated.
