President Mahama Orders GHS2 Diesel Price Reduction to Cushion Consumers

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a temporary reduction of GHS2.00 per litre in the regulatory margin on diesel, effective Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

The intervention, announced by the Presidency Communications Directorate, is expected to last one month and is aimed at cushioning consumers, preventing transport fare hikes, containing inflationary pressures, and mitigating the pass‑through effect of rising fuel costs on the cost of living.

According to the statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the government will continue to monitor developments in the international energy market. Additional policy measures may be introduced if necessary to protect Ghanaian interests and sustain economic recovery.

The directive underscores the administration’s commitment to easing the burden of high fuel prices on households and businesses, while maintaining stability in the broader economy.
