Crash at Birimso Bridge Forces Temporary Diversion on Accra–Kumasi Highway

A major road crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Accra–Kumasi Highway has caused a complete blockade of traffic in both directions, prompting police to announce temporary diversions.

The accident, which occurred on August 3, 2026, involved a high‑occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck, and a sedan. The collision left the highway impassable for vehicles heading towards Accra and Kumasi.

The Eastern South Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi responded swiftly to the scene. Officers have redirected Accra‑bound traffic through Kibi at Nsutam, while Kumasi‑bound vehicles are being diverted at Apedwa.

Authorities have appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with officers on the ground as efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.

The Police Service has assured the public that measures are being taken to clear the crash site and reopen the highway as soon as possible.
