The Government has handed over an additional 2,000 laptops to the University of Ghana to support the implementation of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP), bringing the total number of laptops supplied to the institution to 2,500.
The handover ceremony, held at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), was attended by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, who described the initiative as a major investment in Ghana’s digital future.
He explained that the laptops would enable students to acquire practical skills in coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and software development, positioning them to compete in the global technology economy.
According to the Minister, the OMCP seeks to equip one million Ghanaians with industry‑relevant digital skills to improve employability, drive innovation, and support national economic transformation.
Mr. George urged beneficiaries to use the laptops to build innovative solutions and businesses rather than merely consume digital content, stressing that the programme is designed to foster creativity and entrepreneurship among Ghana’s youth.
The OMCP continues to be a cornerstone of government’s digital agenda, with the University of Ghana’s participation reinforcing the role of higher education in advancing national development.
