The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the President of the Gabonese Republic, H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, on Tuesday, 28th July 2026, held bilateral discussions at Jubilee House in Accra as part of President Oligui Nguema’s three‑day official visit to Ghana.
The talks, preceded by a private tête‑à‑tête, were conducted in an atmosphere of cordiality, mutual respect, and African solidarity, reflecting the longstanding friendship between the two nations. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing sustainable economic development for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
Reviewing the current state of relations, the two Presidents expressed satisfaction with the warm diplomatic ties that have endured over the years. They agreed to intensify cooperation by translating strong political relations into concrete economic partnerships, with emphasis on expanding trade and investment, private sector collaboration, and leveraging opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area to boost intra‑African trade and regional integration.
Recognising the comparative strengths of both countries, the leaders identified strategic sectors for enhanced collaboration, including mining and mineral value addition, oil and gas, energy, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, forestry and climate action, maritime affairs, education, digital transformation, health, tourism, and defence and security. They directed relevant ministries and institutions to develop practical frameworks to facilitate cooperation in these priority areas.
The bilateral talks culminated in the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs):
- MoU on Political Consultations between the Governments of Ghana and Gabon.
- MoU on Cooperation in Diplomats’ Training between Ghana’s Foreign Service Institute and Gabon’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies.
These agreements are expected to deepen institutional collaboration, strengthen diplomatic engagement, and create new opportunities for cooperation across key sectors, reinforcing the enduring partnership between Ghana and Gabon.
To commemorate his visit, President Oligui Nguema planted a tree in the Jubilee House garden, symbolising the growth of Ghana–Gabon relations.
