Vice President Visits Energy Ministry, Sector Gains Highlighted

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition welcomed Her Excellency Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as part of her engagements to strengthen coordination between the Presidency and the ministries.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, briefed the Vice President on the state of the energy sector inherited by the current administration. He noted that in 2024 the sector was marked by persistent load shedding, unavailability of fuel for power generation, low investor confidence in the upstream industry, dwindling fuel reserves, and challenges with the cash waterfall mechanism.

Dr Jinapor, however, highlighted significant progress made under the present government. He pointed to over 10 months without load shedding, disbursement of more than GHS 15 billion through the cash waterfall mechanism, increased gas supply, substantial payment of legacy debts, ongoing reforms at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), improved investor confidence, and the restoration of a US$500 million Partial Risk Guarantee that had been depleted by the previous administration.

“These gains reflect our commitment to sector-wide reforms, infrastructure expansion, and delivering reliable and affordable power for Ghana’s development,” the Minister emphasized.

The Vice President’s visit underscored the importance of collaboration between the Presidency and the ministries in driving reforms and ensuring sustainable energy for national growth.
