Sefwi Wiawso Passport Application Centre Commissioned

Residents of Sefwi Wiawso and surrounding communities in the Western North Region will no longer have to travel outside the region to access passport services, following the commissioning of a Passport Application Centre in the regional capital.

The centre was inaugurated on Tuesday, 6th January, 2026, by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP). In his address, the Deputy Minister explained that the facility forms part of reforms undertaken by the Ministry to improve efficiency, transparency and security in passport administration. He expressed gratitude to regional authorities for their cooperation and support in establishing the centre.

As part of the ceremony, five applicants who had processed their passports at the new centre received their documents directly from the Deputy Minister, symbolising the decentralisation of passport services.

The Western North Regional Minister, Honourable Wilbert Petty Brentum, described the commissioning as a major milestone for the region. He noted that the centre would ease the burden on residents who previously travelled long distances for passport services. He commended the President and the Minister for Foreign Affairs for their commitment to bringing essential services closer to the people, and urged officers at the centre to uphold professionalism, integrity and transparency in their work.

The event was attended by District Chief Executives from the region, the Regional Deputy NADMO Director, Heads of Security Agencies, as well as Religious and Traditional leaders.

The commissioning of the Sefwi Wiawso Passport Application Centre marks another step in government’s efforts to decentralise public services and ensure equitable access for all citizens.
