48 Suspected Cybercrime Operatives Arrested in Dawhenya Night Operation

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives during a nighttime intelligence-led operation in Dawhenya, within the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

The operation, coordinated by the Cyber Security Authority Ghana in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, targeted suspected syndicates engaged in online fraud. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects — 46 males and two females — are believed to be Nigerian nationals.

Authorities say the group is linked to a range of cyber-related crimes, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading. Items retrieved during the raid included 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers.

Minister George stressed that Ghana remains committed to “intelligence-led surgical strikes” against cybercrime networks. “Ghana welcomes everyone interested in legitimate enterprise. We will remain a hostile domain for cyber criminals,” he declared.

He commended the operatives for their professionalism, noting that Ghana’s security services are globally recognized for their dedication and effectiveness. “Their service is celebrated,” he added.

The arrests mark one of the largest coordinated cybercrime crackdowns in recent years, reinforcing Ghana’s determination to safeguard its digital ecosystem and protect citizens from online fraud.
